Barbecue

Once Sarah and Nathan got settled, they invited us and Sue over for a barbecue. Sue was in town helping them get organized. The deck is great for sitting outside!
Here's another shot of the deck from the backyard.
Of course the food was awesome! Nathan made meat, pasta, garlic bread, salad, and grilled zucchini with pesto tomatoes (from the farm).
After dinner, we had a rousing game of frisbee in the newly empty backyard.
This shot shows the amount of sunlight on the backyard at midday on 6-30

Sarah and Nathan Move In

I cleverly posted this under the farm blog. See all the details here:

Move In!

So it all came together at the last minute. We got the appliances in and hooked up.
And the drapes finished and hung.
And they arrived! Sarah and Nathan check out their new table in their new kitchen in their new house.
Sue came up to help with the move. Their furniture still hasn't arrived (it should come tonight) but Sue took  them shopping, for a washer, among other things.
And here's Nathan working in his wonderful kitchen.

Kitchen!

Good news everyone! The counters were installed today, and the appliances were delivered. It's starting to look like a real kitchen.
It's hard to get the colors right with my phone's camera, but it looks great.
The sink is in.
Craig works on getting the microwave/stove hood installed. This will be a huge space saver.
Already we're glad to have the ceiling fan. It cooled the room nicely.
The stove is in the living room still.
And supposedly there is a fridge in this box. Not shown, but delivered today, was the dishwasher.
This is the light over the sink. It's fluorescent, but doesn't look like a shop light.
In other news, the subfloor is in the bathroom, and the vinyl is being installed tomorrow. Then they can put in the toilet and vanity. I need to order a shower curtain!
Titus is painting! He got the master bedroom all done, and is starting on the hall. Daryl is painting baseboards and doors.
The master bedroom is a silvery blue. The trim color is the same throughout the house, for continuity.
So what am I doing? Besides paying the bills, checking in, coordinating with all the workers, cleaning up the yard, and posting to the blog? Making curtains. These shots aren't super accurate as far as color, but it should give you an idea. The master bedroom curtains are black and silver.
I got some wonderful silk taffeta for the front room. The sale remnant was just enough, with a little creativity. It's hard to tell, but there are brownish slubs in the silk, and it looks very elegant.
I'm going to try to put together curtains for the front bedroom out of these two remnants.
And of course, the real find was the cloth for the kitchen. That's gonna be just wonderful.
I've also got a variety of sheers, including this stuff.

Decks

Work is being done on the decks, while I try to finish the painting. This shot is to show the back wall of the kitchen, which is the same light yellow being used throughout much of the house.

They've poured the footings for the kitchen deck.
Daryl works on the stair area.
This picture is really dark, but you can see the deck taking shape out the window. This room has been painted the same light yellow.

More Floor

When Rick and I checked in on Sunday, we saw that the floor had been given the first coat of finish. It's going to be really beautiful.
You can see where the patch is, but it will still be nice.
I hate the boring brown, and plan to go with the bright black and white. It's kinda 50s retro, but in a good way.
The deck has been begun! It's going to be wonderful!
And from the front, you can see the new windows. The siding still has to be repaired, but that's one of the last priorities.

Floor Fixing

The wood floor workers came and patched the holes in the floor. This is where the old floor heater was.
The sunroom floor was also patched. Everything is sanded up, and will be refinished.
I went in and painted the bathroom. It's hard to tell in this picture, but it's a light celedon/aqua. Yeah I know, I have no imagination. It sort of echoes the bathroom at our house, although way lighter. With that paint on, the contractors can now proceed with the bathroom floor.
This is the actual color.
All the cabinets are up! Next steps are finishing the floor, getting in the countertops, and installing the appliances. Starting from the west wall by the door, we have a huge pantry.
Wall cabinets go over the fridge, and over where the dishwasher will go.
After the dishwasher comes the sink area, then the corner cupboards. The hole to the right is where the stove goes. I bought a stainless steel sink that should be very nice and I have a used, but upscale faucet.
This shot shows the upper cabinets on that side.
And finally, here are the cabinets beside the stove. There's tons of storage. This is going to be a fantastic kitchen. Nathan will never want to leave!
As a reminder, and for my records, this is the counter info:
I finally remembered to email the water company about the broken water cover, and they came right out! They decided to replace the whole box and put on a strong metal lid.
