Decks

Work is being done on the decks, while I try to finish the painting. This shot is to show the back wall of the kitchen, which is the same light yellow being used throughout much of the house.

They've poured the footings for the kitchen deck.
Daryl works on the stair area.
This picture is really dark, but you can see the deck taking shape out the window. This room has been painted the same light yellow.

More Floor

When Rick and I checked in on Sunday, we saw that the floor had been given the first coat of finish. It's going to be really beautiful.
You can see where the patch is, but it will still be nice.
I hate the boring brown, and plan to go with the bright black and white. It's kinda 50s retro, but in a good way.
The deck has been begun! It's going to be wonderful!
And from the front, you can see the new windows. The siding still has to be repaired, but that's one of the last priorities.

Floor Fixing

The wood floor workers came and patched the holes in the floor. This is where the old floor heater was.
The sunroom floor was also patched. Everything is sanded up, and will be refinished.
I went in and painted the bathroom. It's hard to tell in this picture, but it's a light celedon/aqua. Yeah I know, I have no imagination. It sort of echoes the bathroom at our house, although way lighter. With that paint on, the contractors can now proceed with the bathroom floor.
This is the actual color.
All the cabinets are up! Next steps are finishing the floor, getting in the countertops, and installing the appliances. Starting from the west wall by the door, we have a huge pantry.
Wall cabinets go over the fridge, and over where the dishwasher will go.
After the dishwasher comes the sink area, then the corner cupboards. The hole to the right is where the stove goes. I bought a stainless steel sink that should be very nice and I have a used, but upscale faucet.
This shot shows the upper cabinets on that side.
And finally, here are the cabinets beside the stove. There's tons of storage. This is going to be a fantastic kitchen. Nathan will never want to leave!
As a reminder, and for my records, this is the counter info:
I finally remembered to email the water company about the broken water cover, and they came right out! They decided to replace the whole box and put on a strong metal lid.

Cabinets Up

The cabinets are going up! It's exciting. They started last Friday.
When we went over on Saturday, one wall's worth was up.
Our mission on Saturday was getting rid of the TV. The ARC had an electronic-recycling event, so we took it plus some old electronics from our house. Buddy helps Rick get it into the truck.
On Monday, Craig was working on the back wall.
My mission yesterday was to buy the sink and select the countertops. This isn't what I though I was looking for, but it looks so good! The marble look makes it appear so much nicer than a plain color would. It may only be laminate, but it can look like high-end marble!

More Painting

We've been trying to stay ahead of the contractors as far as painting. Last weekend we went over and got started on the kitchen. Rick puts plastic down on the floor.
Here it is with a coat of primer.
And here it is with some color. This is a bold color, but most of it will be covered with cabinets. The other two walls are a pale yellow.
As of today, the cabinets are going up.
Also last week the heater/air-conditioning unit went in. It was expensive, but it will be worth it in the long run
And I couldn't resist getting a shot of this. After all, this is the *second* house Rick has bought me for Valentines day.

Kitchen Progress

Things are going as fast as possible. Daryl got the kitchen ready to paint. Those holes are the new electrical boxes.
And he got the old flooring scraped up. I supposed we should have guessed but... who in their right mind would put vinyl over oak?! Yep! The kitchen floor is composed of beautiful old oak boards. Being in our right minds, we immediately canceled plans to replace the vinyl, and got a bid for patching and refinishing the floor.
And if we were going to patch and finish this floor, and the heater hole in the hall, why not do the sunroom too? So we got a bid for that as well.
Turns out, it wasn't going to cost any more than putting down vinyl. Yay! The house is going to be really beautiful. And wood is durable, although it will have to be refinished once in a while. Rick helps tear up a bit of floor.
I got some work done over there myself. It doesn't look like much, but I painted the inside of the closet where the heating/ac unit will go.
And got the first coat of primer on the kitchen. Well part of the kitchen. I'll go over today and do more.
